We are in the process of studying the Minor Prophets in the Old Testament. Hosea is considered a pre-exile prophet, because it seems Hosea was written prior to the capture of Samaria in 722 B.C.. Hosea was believed to live in the Northern Kingdom of Israel.

 1. Forgiving love:

Hosea was commanded by God to marry Gomer, a woman who would be unfaithful to the marriage rites, a woman who would reject the family life that Hosea would give her. Hosea’s life was quickly deteriorating because of Gomer. Later God commanded Hosea, in his love for his wife, to buy her back from the auction block, after being used by the men of the Northern Kingdom.

God used Hosea’s situation to point the people of Israel to salvation. Hosea’s name means salvation, so this becomes the theme of Hosea. Hosea became God’s living example to Israel of God’s love. God was calling Israel to salvation, a time of compassion, a time of restoration, such as Hosea showed Gomer his wife.

2. Nurturing love:

God said, Ephraim is joined to idols, leave him alone” (Hosea 4:17). Jeroboam separated the ten tribes from Judah, to keep the people from going to Jerusalem, he set up Temples in Bethel and Dan. The people joined themselves to idols instead of worshiping God. This was the point why God used Hosea and Gomer, Gomer turning back to her old way of life (prostitution) instead of being with Hosea. Jeroboam turned the hearts of the people away from God to idol worship, (spiritual worship).

God is calling Israel to return to Him for mercy and to acknowledge Him. Give God first place in their heart. God reminds Israel He is their Savior, and the only Savior who is able to deliver them. God is nurturing the Israelites to return to Him and His love and mercy.

3. Healing love:

This part of Hosea reminds the reader of the New Testament story about the Prodigal Son. God is waiting for Israel to return in salvation to Him. Through the Old Testament God’s whole theme to attempting to draw the Israelites closer to Him.

God sent His son, Jesus for the forgiveness of sin, even when that forgiveness is delayed God is nurturing His people, with signs and wonders to draw His people back to Him. There is only Salvation in One, Christ Jesus. When Salvation is realized Healing Love can be gained. There is Healing in the Arms of God, only for those who are willing to turn back to God.

When Hosea bought Gomer and brought her back to his home, Hosea told his wayward wife, I am your husband, you are my wife, you will not follow your other life, you will with me. God is calling His people back to Himself, He wants to be your God, and for you to be His Sheep in His pasture. Return to God and embrace His Forgiving Love, His nurturing love, and Healing love.

Sabbath Your Soul

Give Your Heart A Break

Written By Joyce Mather December 13, 2013

A Holy Day

Salvation is Born

Yeshua is His Name

Because He Lives you dare

Sabbath your soul and

Give your heart a break

Sabbath your soul

Give your heart a break

Rest in the Lord

For He cares for you

The Saviour did come

2014 years ago

Yes Yeshua delivered us

From the power of the destroyer

33 years later

Sabbath your soul

Give your heart a break

Rest in the Lord

For He cares for you

When life you stress too much

Recoils with pain

Sabbath your soul

Give your heart a break

Lay low before Yeshua

For He cares for you

He will stroke your heart

Pouring His healing balm deep within

Sabbath your soul

Give your heart a break

Rest in the Lord

For He cares for you

When too much joy you have bestowed

And your soul descends into such weariness

Sabbath your soul

Give your heart a break

Quietly ponder His Words of Life

Written therein His Holy Book

The Bible tis simply

Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth

For it will provide corrective health

To your bone & marrow

held in your bars of bone

that were inflamed by so much care

you have heaped on yourself

Sabbath your soul

Give your heart a break

For indeed He cares for you.

Spent too much for things needed; or not?

Sabbath your soul

Pray in the Spirit

Lay your dollars before the Lord

with speaking in tongues,

ask Him to give you souls instead of things

Simply lay before him in prayer

Seeking His face

As you in the Spirit

pour out to Jesus your cares

Let Him drain you of woe

Sabbath your soul

Give your heart a break

Rest in the Lord

He cares for you

When relationships flounder

Sabbath your soul

Give your heart a break

Yield to Him those broken promises

Let go those anger and fears

Allow Christ to take and remake

You into wholeness anew

Sabbath your soul

Give your heart a break

Rest, I say rest in Him

For He cares for you.

Beams Survive from 70 AD

In recent excavations in Israel several beams made of cedar and cypress, dating back as far as 70 AD, have been found. Both woods are known for their high quality, great durability and resistance to rotting. These wooden beams could last more than two millennia. Imagine, God planned for Solomon and any other builders of the Temple to use this time resistant wood in its construction.

On a trip to Israel we were have seen the “Jesus boat” ,  dated from the first century and recovered from the Sea of Galilee, which was built from reused timbers made of  cedar from Lebanon.

This boat was found in the Sea of Galilee in Northern Israel in 1983. It is believed to date back to the 1st century AD.

Archaeologists have discovered the cedar and cypress beams from the Temple Mount used again at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and two other buildings on the Temple Mount.

They have survived during the earthquakes of 1927, and 1937 although through severe damage they were able to be used again.

Jeremiah 17:7,8  Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.

8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

Jeremiah gives us a wonderful illustration of the Believer today. Imagine each Believer today like a Cyprus or a Cedar of Lebanon, and its longevity, withstanding earthquakes and still being usable for His purpose.

The Believer is a “living epistle” so the world can see and read.

This “Living Epistle” holding forth the Word of God, standing year after year, through all kinds of storms.

God intended His Believers to be strong, being ready for His use, whether put aside for a time, then renewed, restored ready to be used again.

Let us Believers have the endurance, high quality, durability as we carry the Gospel to the ends of the earth.

 Matt 24:13-14

But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

The Declaration of Independence

Two hundred and thirty-six years ago Thomas Jefferson penned the words that marked the beginning of the United States of America. The Declaration of Independence was later adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776 marking the day that we now celebrate as Independence Day.

It was a historical event for it announced to Great Britain that the thirteen American colonies would no longer adhere to the rules and control of the British Empire. A daring move, many believed that the fledgling United States would survive for more than a few years, and yet here we are 236 years later.

John Locke, a theologian of that era stated that the basis of this historical document originates from two sources; the first one “The Two Treatise” which John Lock wrote himself and the Bible.

It is said the Declaration of Independence has several links to the Bible:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident“(John 8:32)

“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

“…that all men are created equal…” (Romans 1:20-21; Galatians 3:28)

“From since the creation of the world His invisible, attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse. Because although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. (Romans 1:20-21).

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.(Gal 3:28)

“…that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable” Rights… (Romans 8:35-39)   Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:35-39)

“…that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” (Luke 4:16-21)  And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

 (Luke 4:16-21)

The lines from The Declaration of Independence illustrate that God’s Word was used in the establishing of America, there is evidence that the Founding Fathers intended to leave a legacy for generations to come.

As you celebrate this July 4th let it not only be in fireworks, food, and parties but stretch your thoughts to the purpose of the Declaration of Independence; freedom for all to worship, think, enjoy, and for the greatest country in the world.

Thank you Founding Fathers for the legacy you have given us in your dedication to God and to founding a country where all men are treated equally and have freedom to worship. Thank you to the men and women who defend that right.
